MADly rejected – Paul of the House of Ushers

This was the second strip that I submitted to MAD Magazine (after the infamous “on-going religious allegory strip” that I mentioned here) before getting my first piece in.

This one was called “Paul of the House of Ushers.” It followed a bunch of slackers in their go-nowhere jobs at a movie theater. The sample above was probably the most accessible. The other samples included a same-age boss dating Paul’s unrequited love and..well, I was just trying to do too much and the editor passed on it. (You may have noticed that I used the same characters later in another rejected movie-related concept, “Coming Distractions.” Remember, always recycle when possible.)
