Saturday is the new Sunday – Inner child

June 18, 2011

Here’s the probably-never-seen drop panel for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. Once again, I really like this one. That may sound conceited but, really, I rarely have a string of Sundays that I thought were strong.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Deliver us from evil

June 4, 2011

Here’s the probably-never-seen drop panel for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. I wish I could have written more of this kind of back-n-forth, 1940’s fast-talkin’ comedy.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Love connection

May 28, 2011

Here’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel. This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. I did a rather unscientific poll of myself and I’d say this is one of my favorite Sundays. (Your results may vary.)

Saturday is the new Sunday – Falling down

May 21, 2011

Feel that crisp chill in the air? Yep, Fall’s right around the corner, so here’s yet another seasonally-inappropriate drop panel. This one is for the equally seasonally-inappropriate Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. Enjoy this little reprieve before starting your “back to school” shopping.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Happy (not) birthday!

May 7, 2011

Yup, you guessed it. Here’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel. This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com.

Every year, on my wife’s birthday, I would do a strip featuring the Birthday Girl. This an incredibly self-centered woman, who resembles my wife only physically. In other words, this character is an in-joke that only a few people get. But, still, the main gag is written for “civilians.”

The year I did this strip I hadn’t realized that my wife’s birthday was landing on a Sunday, so I had drawn it up as a “daily” (one of the strips that runs Monday through Saturday.) It wasn’t until I was doing a batch of Sunday strips that I discovered my error and had to rearrange the elements to make it work.

Oh, and the house pictured is the one we used to live in.

And since Gocomics.com doesn’t rerun the strips on the date they first appeared, today is not my wife’s actual b-day.

At least I hope it isn’t.*

Saturday is the new Sunday – Doctor! Doctor!

April 30, 2011

Yep, you guessed it. It’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel. This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. And it’s probably better that it was unseen – I haven’t the slightest idea why the stethoscope is going up. I think it might have something with reversing the way stethoscopes usually hang, which is down. Dumb, really.

As for the strip, I realized thatrecently I described another Sunday strip as being one of only two Sundays that Mr. Bench appeared in. Well, it’s three. I’d forgotten about this one.

Also the set-up is funnier than the punchline, but it doesn’t really work as an ending.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Hit me with your best shot

April 23, 2011

Here’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel. This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com.

For a time I seemed to have been semi-obsessed with people as pinatas as you can see from the greeting card I did below.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Drive up, feel down

April 16, 2011

Here’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel. This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. I like the gag – sort of thoughtful – but that’s one unsavory burger above.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Puns-R-Us

April 9, 2011

Here’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel. This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com. A “tail peek” to be sure.

I can tell this “monkey bars” idea was one I had very early on since it’s so very verbally related to Bo being a monkey and, he doesn’t know what they are. In the beginning stages I figured Bo as a “stranger in a strange land” – his naiveté would be reflective of society’s foibles. This evolved into him being the smartest person in the strip.

Saturday is the new Sunday – Stranded on Coney Island

Here’s yet another probably-never-seen drop panel .This one is for the Sunday strip rerunning today on Gocomics.com.

OK, I’m lying. It was two days ago. I’m horribly behind on my blogging.

I beg your forgiveness.

It’s a nice strip though. A “big panel.” Sure, that can seen like a cop-out, but still, you can look at it, and enjoy it, for free. That’s gotta be worth something.

Of course, if it’s free, that begs the question about its true worth..

……

….anyway…like I said, I’m sorry.
