I recently found my first Bo Nanas book, signed by me, in a used bookstore. It gave my fragile ego a bit of a tweak.

Book learnin’
December 5, 2014Rack ’em up
June 11, 2014I’d alway wanted a comic book spinner rack, but they’re a wee bit hard to find. About a year ago, during one of my usual sessions of dumpster diving at the college I teach at, I found this:
I think it’s a greeting card rack. Doesn’t matter; ol’ timey cartoon reprint paperbacks fit quite nicely in it.
Pre-enjoyed (I assume)
March 23, 2014I have one place I have to go to when I’m in the Big New Apple City of York – the Strand Bookstore. Lots of new and used books, all discounted. When I started going there in the 1980s there was a negligible comics/cartoon section – a couple of shelves as long as my arm. Now it’s two huge walls and miscellaneous shelve-y things.
I was there in January, digging around, looking for treasure as usual when I found a copy of my Bo Nanas book, Monkey Meets World. I was surprised because, well, there aren’t a lot of copies out there. It went out of print pretty soon after it was published. As someone at the publishing company recently said, somewhat woefully, “It did not do well.”
I didn’t plan this as a shill but…if you just must have a copy, click here.
Blast from the past
August 26, 2013I found this used Bo Nanas book at the 2nd & Charles in Harrisburg PA. It didn’t sell very well when it came out, so to see a used copy in the flesh, I was a little stunned. It was priced $4.83…and get this, I signed it to someone named “Jimmy” in 2007.
Huh.
Wonder if it would’ve been price more or less if it wasn’t signed.
(BTW, not to be an obnoxious shill, but the book is out of print, but you can get it through my site. I’ll even sign it to someone other than Jimmy.)
Free Comic Book Day
April 27, 2012Did you know Saturday is Free Comic Book Day, the nerdliest holiday of them all? Once again I’ll be at the York, PA location of Comix Connections with plenty of Bo Nanas books…and free Bo Nanas prints that I’ll be signing.
Not only will there be free stuff, the good folks at CC also have a ton of sales going on and a canned food drive. Dig around their site for all the info.
There’s teasure everywhere…
June 28, 2011…including close-out stores like Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, which is where I stumbled upon these Steve Canyon and Windsor McCay reprint books for $3 a piece. I bought all the volumes they had – a calculated risk because I knew that I had a few of the McCays, but couldn’t recall which ones. Luckily, I only bought one that I already had.
